Lebanese Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam received a delegation from the Bekaa region, which included His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Ali Al-Ghazzawi, Mufti of Zahle and the Bekaa; Archimandrite Elie Bou Chaya, representing the bishops of Zahle; Judge Dr. Daniel Said; former Deputy Speaker of Parliament Elie Ferzli; MPs Wael Abou Faour, Hassan Mourad, Qabalan Qabalan, and Salim Aoun; former MPs Jamal Jarrah, Elie Marouni, Assem Araji, and Mohammad Al-Qaraaoui; Mounir Al-Tini, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Zahle; Sheikh Assem Jarrah, Head of the Bekaa Awqaf Department; Sheikh Ziad Haifa, Director of the Bekaa Mufti's Office; and Dr. Nader Jomaa, Director of the Scientific Research Center at Azhari Bekaa.
Following the meeting, Mufti Al-Ghazzawi stated:
“We came to visit Prime Minister Salam following two previous visits to the President of the Republic and the Speaker of Parliament. We presented him with a document stemming from the recommendations of the summit held at Azhari Bekaa under the title ‘Development and Belonging… The Bekaa,’ which brought together various representatives of the Bekaa region, including religious leaders, bishops, ministers, current and former members of Parliament, as well as officials and directors of public institutions and administrations.
The meeting resulted in a statement and a document, which we submitted to the President of the Republic and Speaker Nabih Berri, and today to Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
This document reflects the concerns and aspirations of the people of the Bekaa in general, along with proposals for establishing institutions and facilities that the region needs, ensuring that the Bekaa remains an active and integral part of the nation rather than a region isolated from it.”
